Their statements come after the House of Representatives' Committee on Justice, led by Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro, issued several subpoenas for documents needed in the impeachment hearing. In a press briefing on March 25, 2026, Sison said that under the Constitution, only the Senate has the power to conduct the impeachment trial. Luistro said the House hearing was similar to a 'preliminary investigation' in the criminal justice system.
