They display a peculiar behavior when a perceived threat comes near their nest or babies. The mom and dad will thrash around on the ground pretending to be injured or to have a broken wing. This lures potential predators away from the nest.<br />Mom and dad killdeer (bird) have 4 eggs they are protecting. Mom killdeer pretends to be injured to lure people away from the nest and protects her eggs/babies."
